Genova by the sea

The perfect wedding setting

The most stunning views of Genova the Superb from the sea.

The Genoese have always called it the “Isola delle Chiatte”: a location right in the heart of Genova’s old port, where these flat wide barges [“chiatte”] are moored. Once upon a time it was separate from the land, while now it can be reached along a jetty that offers anyone who walks along it, the opportunity to enjoy some of the most stunning views of Genova the Superb from the sea.

It is on one of these barges that the groom will await his bride, who will reach him by boat, slowly crossing the calm waters of the Old Port. A symbolic scene, extraordinarily full of significance and at the same time, a moment of absolute magic that only Genova can give the happy couple and their guests.

The Lanterna – the lighthouse that has been guiding sailors forever – will be the witness of the event, providing a backdrop to the couple as they walk along the jetty to reach the location of the ceremony. A ship will be moored in the jetty and its deck will be set out for the wedding ceremony itself.

From here, the happy couple will watch the sunset all around them as they are joined in matrimony.

A moment of absolute magic that only Genova can give the happy couple and their guests

Just a few dozen metres away are the reception rooms of the Acquario di Genova: a suite of sunken rooms, where the walls are in glass, looking out onto the sea, where it is possible to watch the dolphins, sharks and other fish normally found in the Mediterranean Sea. In a soft, magical atmosphere, the only sounds are those of the sea depths, just like in a novel by Jules Verne.

This tranquil setting is only a short pause, since the deck of the ship will be prepared to provide the ideal setting for a memorable wedding party that will accompany the happy couple and their guests for the rest of the night.

Church

Until the year 1000, there was a vineyard where the Genoese made excellent wine.  In the centuries that followed, the Genoese themselves built the Basilica delle Vigne on top of this vineyard: an extraordinary church that still today offers its visitors views of its rich gold decorations, double binary colonnade and the light, harmonious effect of its interior.

Civil cerimony

Outside, on the deck of a ship anchored in the centre of the Old Port, or in front of one of the enormous tanks filled with exotic fish, cetaceans or other marine species normally found in the Mediterranean Sea, a civil ceremony will be a thrilling experience in a setting that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

Film directors usually say that “Genova has lots of locations”, meaning that the city offers lots of places in which to create extraordinary scenes. The city’s Old Port is one such place: a location that will make your memories even more unforgettable.
